What Is Essiac Tea?
In the 1920s, a Canadian nurse by the name of Rene Caisse tested and used 'Essiac' tea (her last name spelled backwards) as a natural cancer treatment. She may have worked with the Ontario Ojibwa tribe for her formula, and she spent years testing it and eventually adding four new herbs to her recipe. Her final 8-herb recipe includes additional anti-inflammatory and antioxidant herbs that work in balance with the original herbs for her most powerful recipe.
Rene Caisse's recipe calls for specific ratios of each herb to be followed, and calls for Sheep sorrel root which is particularly difficult to harvest and clean carefully, and many Essiac companies will leave this important step out. However, the tea loses much of its effect and does not carry the same proportions without the Sheep sorrel root. Be sure the tea you purchase has all 8 ingredients, has a slighly bitter taste, and is cleanly harvested to include this root.

Harvested and processed in North America using Rene Caisse's improved and final 8-ingredient blend, Essiacure is hand processed to include all parts of the updated recipe.
8-Ingredient Essiacure includes: Blessed Thistle, Burdock Root, Kelp, Red Clover, Sheep Sorrel (leaves & roots), Slippery Elm Bark, Turkish Rhubarb Root, and Watercress. The tea has a slightly bitter & earthy flavor to it. Essiac tea without the bitter flavor is not the updated 8-ingredient blend.
